Lambton Wildlife Inc. was established in 1966, with the purpose of bringing those with a love of nature together in a setting to foster learning and enjoyment.

We strive to provide a lively and informative program for our members.

  Birding at Pinery Provincial Park  

When:  Sat May 17th, 2008
Meet: 8am Riverside Trail - Pinery Provincial Park (entrance fee charged)

Great birding with Larry at Pinery Provincial Park where migrating birds concentrate along the Lake Huron shoreline as they move north.

 Joint  Field Trip with McIlwraith Field Naturalists of London

When: Sun May 18th, 2008
Meet:  12:15pm for carpooling at St. Clair High School. Field trip starts at 1:30pm

Tour of the 105 acre Caveney property, corner of Black's Rd. & Gray Line, west of Port Glascow in West Elgin. Anita Caveney is president of MFN and her entomologist husband Stan is active with the Thames Talbot Land Trust. See natural restoration, including the stewarding of 25 acres of woodland towards old growth forest and former cropland, now a scrub meadow, into grassland and forest.  Abundance of native plants, insects and birds. Wear long pants.  Light refreshments will be served.

 Botany on the Bruce

When: Fri, Sat & Sun June 13th, 14th & 15th, 2008
Cost:  $20/person, seating is limited

Starts with wine and cheese at John & Joan McPhedran's Friday night (just north of Wiarton). Tours on Sat & Sun. Lunch both days at restaurants. Dinner at the McPhedrans on Sat night.  See April 2008 Earthways for more details.

 Annual Pinery & North Lambton Butterfly Count

When: Sat June 21st, 2008  (heavy rain date: Sun Jun 22nd)
Meet:  8:30am Pinery Visitor Centre
Cost:  $5/person (same as Christmas bird count) which goes to the NA Butterfly Association to help with the conservation of butterflies

No experience is really needed to help. We will partner you with an experienced guide. Lunch is provided by the Friends of the Pinery.  The count ends at 4:30pm, but you may leave before then. If you can borrow a net, great, but we will have extras.

 Dragonflies and Damselflies (and Butterflies)

The LWI/NCC Port Franks Forested Dunes property is a great place to find these beautiful insects. Come and see what these areas are like and what types of insects (ie. dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies and a myriad of other small insects) live here. Limit of 10 persons.

  Birding Niagara

We will be searching for uncommon to rare gulls and ducks which concentrate along Lake Ontario and in the Niagara gorge, from above the falls to Niagara on the Lake.

     Backyard Bird Feeding: Project Feeder Watch   

When: Sep 29th, 2008

Hugh McArthur, on the board of Bird Studies Canada, the sponsor of Project Feeder Watch, will describe this program which can make the winter months a lot more fun by watching birds at your feeder and turn a backyard hobby into valuable conservation research - without ever leaving home!  He will give helpful hints on bird feeding.

    Walpole Island Natural Heritage    

When: Oct 27th, 2008

Clint Jacobs, the Natural Heritage Coordinator for the Walpole Island First Nation, traditionally called Bkejwanong (meaning where the water divides) will talk about the many nationally rare and endangered plant and wildlife species, species at risk, ecosystem recovery, education outreach in the community and the Walpole Island Land Trust.

     Rural Lambton Stewardship Network     

When: Nov 24th, 2008

Ron Ludolph, the Stewardship Coordinator for RLSN, will talk about the numerous, comprehensive, multi-partner stewardship projects which focus on projects for habitat restoration, conservation and enhancement.  The RLSN promotes private land stewardship at the grass roots level.

     Rehabilitating Birds of Prey    

When: Jan 26th, 2009

Lynn Eves, director of the Bluewater Center for Raptor Rehabilitation, will describe her work in trying to rehabilitate birds of prey, researching their needs and educating the public about these birds and how we can all help to create a harmonious and healthy environment for all living creatures.

     Species At Risk: Lambton Area   

When: Feb 23rd, 2009

Kim Gledhill, Conservation Education Technician for the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and LWI member, will talk about what has been happening with the Aquatic Species at Risk program over the last few years and the new Tree Species at Risk program, both of which stress best management practices to preserve habitat for species at risk.

     Urban Insects   

When: Mar 30th, 2009

Stanley Caveney will talk about some of our local insects and their fascinating and often bizarre lifestyles. He is an entomologist, recently retired as a professor at Western. His presentation will include a bit about insect evolution, diversity of species and recent invasive species in the Sarnia-Lambton area.
